Basketball
Saint John School has five basketball teams playing in two local Catholic school basketball leagues, the South Shore Parochial School League and the Mount Alvernia League. SJS has five teams - a coed 1-2 grade team, a girl 3-4 grade team, a boy 3-4 grade team, a girl 5-6 grade team and a boy 5-6 grade team. All SJS teams have practices and games during a 10 week season starting in late November until early March. Saint John School also has a mid-season annual basketball Jamboree celebration where the SJS community is invited to watch all five team play. At season end, the 3-4 grade teams have a parent vs student game with a post celebration and the 5-6 teams host the SJS Invitational Round Robin Tournament at Xaverian Brother’s High School (boys) and Ursuline Academy (girls). The teams are coached by volunteer parents in a fun community based environment. SJS students have the opportunity to develop their basketball skills while displaying Christian values and learning important life lessons of teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. All while having fun representing their school!
